The offer which the unions .

wages and fringe benefits,
would give the workers a pay
increase of three dollars an
hour over the next two
years.

ternational Woodworkers of
America, which:is the largest
of the three forest industry
unions, were scheduled to
meet Thursday, to discuss
whether to accept the latest
Offer or not.

And the 5500 members of
the Pulp, Paper and
Woodworkers of Canada,
have been advised by their

union leaders. to reject the ©

latest offer.
The result of their strike

vote was expected to be |

known sometime * Friday.

Hydro
‘fine
slammed

B.C. Hydro has been
accused of trying to
‘blackmail’ Vancouver
Island communities into
approving a 500 volt tran-
_smission line from Squamish
to Vancouver Island.

sday, Bob Skelli, the NDP
member of the legislature for
Alberni, says B.C. Hydro
public relations people are
telling communities that if
the line is not finished then a
number of industrial ex-
pansion projects on the
Island will be cancelled.

Skelli says, and he adds that

such stations will be cheaper

to run and will create more
employment.

Skelli also says Hydro is
anxious to start work on the
{transmission line this fall
beCause the cost of building
it has increased from $350
million to $615 million.
