District of North Vancouver Fire Services has just completed the Mr. Do-Bee Safety stage pro- duction in all elementary schools in the district. All the primary students expe- rienced education through enter- tainment in this attempt to teach the students basic life safety skills. A segment of the Mr. Do-Bee Safety Show includes a take-home activity that the students receive. They are instructed to tour their home, checking for any possible household hazards and plan and - practise fire drills in the home with the entire family. The students are receiving valuable information and are very keen and perceptive to our safety lessons. They will go home and attempt to make their homes and families a little safer, but too often their enthusiasm falls on deaf ears. Usually, Mom and/or Dad feels “that their home » conduct 4 MR. ‘DO-BEE, Cap Holly, - is quite safe because they have never had a fire before and will probably never have one. Or they are just too busy to fire drill.in their home and believe it can wait for another day (frequently, this day never ar- rives). Conceivabiy, the safety pro- cedures and attitudes parents de- velop at home now could con- ceivably affect their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Please, when your child comes home from.:chool and attempts to assist the family in making the home a safer place to live, listen and support them.
