Tutor training offered

NORTH VANCOUVER School
District will be offering specialized
tutor training for volunteers will-
ing to work with children) who
have learning difficulties. Tutors
are desperately needed during the
school day to give one-to-one
support to students with problems
in learning a variety'of academic
skills.

The program carefully selects
volunteers for this comprehensive
training program. Volunteers will
be trained in multisensory reading

methods, language development,
whole language reading methods,
reading, writing, and spelling
strategies.

Upon completion of the pro-
gram. the volunteers are placed to
tutor one child for one hour per
day, twice a week for a full school
year. “Every year, volunteers
donate over 5,000 hours to work
directly with children.”’ says Lori
McDonald. ‘You can make a dif-
ference in a child's future.”

Training begins Sept. 24. If you
