Mailbox Doug Collins motivates Dear Editor: Unlike Catherine Davey, my opinion is that Doug Collins is very true to life. Furthermore Ms. Davey don’t you request that Mr. Collins wake up, when in fact you want the prudence of Mr. Collins to go to sleep. The vigilant guard of Mr. Collins’ vigorous and succinct writing style offends the fantasies of a lot of those who have gonc through the liberal education system. Bui Mr. Collins’ column is possibly the only one that can ruffle the intelligentsia and the comfort zone of materialism that is both a blessing and a curse to our culture. Don’t let persecutionary paranoia get to you, Doug; keep motivating us with each possible North Shore News issue to fight for the inheritance of our forefa- thers that each night, as we sleep, seems to diminish further through apathy and complacency. The other side ratte eee ee f oo of the street is in the City of North Vancouver. Thereby hangs ‘‘the rub.” VanCity Insurance Services Ltd. Van. The city side has what should be a boulevard abutting the back yards of houses in the next street. But the city has neglected the boulevard for decades allowing those with back yards touching it to dump unwanted useless vehicles, boats and campers, coupled with elongated runs for dogs, held at bay by mere chicken wire, barking at every passer-by. Cars run over this city land to get to makeshift carports, the whole being strewn with weeds three feet high from May to October. Rats abound that sometimes come right up to the house. I went to see the mayor of the city. He came to look at it with one of his henchmen but when he realized I lived on the district side he laughed and said, ‘“‘You are not a city voter so it’s nothing to do with me!”” 1 started a six-month session of letter writing to the district mayor and some aldermen but they all passed the buck. Nothing’s been done and no-one cares. Looking at the mess is unbearable yet I cannot sell the place because no sane buyer would want to buy at the price I have invested in it. Maybe it is time for the district and the city to amalgamate and do away with half the elccted repre- sentatives of the municipalities. It would save half the cost but mostly it would prevent the animosity between the two of them. Neither gets along with the other, despite pictures sometimes seen in your newspaper with all smiling happily. AH phony!
