This collection of college ‘Mayers, many of them university graduates, have for seven months carried on a kind of quiet revolution aimed at the nation’s hockey consciousness. They are trying to offer spectators and young players an alternative to the NHL. Gregg, 23, who graduated from the University of Alberta’s medical school last May, thinks the battle is already going in favor of Team Canada. “I think we have proved you don't have to play grinding, acutely physical hockey. We are not afraid to hit. Certainly we have men that are capable of hitting with the best. Gregg, a native of Ed- monton, is a symbol of the self-sacrificing national team idea nurtured by Calgary's Father David Bauer for 20 years. Like many of his team- mates, Gregg has tem- porarily shunned a chance for the instant cash that accompanies a pro contract. He has also waived an op- portunity to begin his medical internship.
