CANADA CUP SERIES

Bike race hits

MOUNT Seymour will be the site
of the second stage of the Bicycling
Association of B.C.'s Hyack Stage
Race on Tuesday.

The race will be the first event in
the 1987 Canada Cup bicycling
series.

The Canada Cup is a season-
long national series of eight events
leading up to the national champi-
onships in September.

The overall series is critical to
the development and selection of
the Canadian national men’s road
team.

The race is comprised of three
events. The final standings are
based on total time.

On Monday, stage one will be
the {45-kilometre Armstrong Road
Race in Ft. Langley. The race, 18
laps around an_ eight-kilometre
course, will begin at 10 a.m.

THE BLUES blasted the Reds 10-5
in recent Lynn Valley Women's
Softball League action.

Elsewhere in the league, the
Yellows battered the Greens 10-6
and the Blues bashed the Greens
6-3.

The Yellows then knocked off
the Reds 9-4.

Home runs in the various mat-
ches were hit by Lea Young, Barb
Kein ard  Drel} Roberts, who
slugged a grand slam.

In opening LVWSL action April
27 the Yellows doubled the Reds
8-4 and the Greens beat the Blues
10-6.

Home runs in the games were hit
by Gail Bott, Marg Bruno and Sue
Sillikee.

On April 29 the Reds trimmed
the Greens 13-12 and the
Yellow squad whipped the Blues
9-5.

Home run hitters were Betsy
Kowan, Maria Pistilli, Sue Sillibee,
Judie Shaughnessey and Joanne
McConnell.

Local wins
Kelowna Open

WEST VANCOUVER’S Dan
Douet won the Kelowna Junior
Open golf tournament held May 9.

The 16-year-old, who plays at
the Seymour Golf and Country
Club, won the event after carding
a74.

Douet also won the tourna-
“ment’s longest drive, the low gross
and the team championship.

In all 100 players competed in
the junior amateur tournament.
