She has always been interested in politics and says: “I’m a bear when it comes to fighting for princi- pies. Young people should get involved in their com- Munities and with politics.” This vibrant, capable lady thrives on keeping busy. Not only is she active in her community and the Block Watch program, Louise con- tinues with her 52-year home-based business, main- tains her vegetable and flower gardens and delights in entertaining in her home. The youngest of five chil- dren, Lovise was born on Ukrainian New Year’s Day, Jan. 14, 1924 at Leduc, Alberta. She fondly remem- bers a happy childhood and skating after school. Her father, an implement sales- man, moved the family to Edmonton in 1939 — it was here that Louise finished her schooling. . Her first job was with the American government as a telephone operator at an air- port in Edmonton. In 1946 Louise decided - to come to Vancouver to join her brothers and sisters. It was in this home in 1967 chat Louise was left to raise their four children on her own — nor an easy task. She looks back course and for the period 1947 to °52 worked with the Sun Life Insurance Company before deciding to leave to marry Bob Williams. She and Beb moved to the North Shore in 1953 over those years with both sadness and pride. She was always home when the chil- deen came from schaal, and she made time out of her busy schedule to put on birthday parties for them. Her first grandchild was born on her 65th birthday. Louise upgraded her stenographic and business skills at BCIT and re- entered the workforce by obtaining a civil servic: job with the Department 4. Veteran Affairs where she stayed for three years. * Then after a tew short jobs, she obtained a full- time position with Warnock Hersey and stayed until she retired some 10 years later. At her retirement party, Warnock Hersey presented Louise with a plaque in recognition of her 10 years of dedicated service with the company. Louise is very active in the Block Watch Program and in 1992 the RCMP pre- sented her with a plaque in recognition of her outstand- ing work. She thoroughly enjoys the Black Watch pic- nics. Back in 1947 Louise started her own enterprise selling personalized Christmas cards to business- es and continues to do so. Louise stays involved in the community and volunteers at the Edgemont Community Policing Office.
