24 — Sunday, August 9. 1998 — North Shore News I have been impressed by the extent to which tall, blonde-maned local artist, Spar Street has been determinedly “working on himself” for at least as long as we have been acquainted (over the last decade). I have participated with him in Chuck Spezzano semi- nars, Nancy Shipley Rubin workshops; he partakes of the wisdom of Lazaris, Krishnamurti, Poonjaji, Maharaj (and many others). I have done astrologically- oriented work for him and have repeatediy spoken of his potential for popular “star- dom” and consequent abun- dance/prosperity. This is hap- pening. He is more and more consciously creating it. Read his own words and learn how and why. “My mother was studying art when I was born. The dac- tor received a painting as pay- ment for my deliv very. Art has always moved me and continu~ --ally participates in the realiza- tion of who [ am. “My paintings are mostly abstract, rhythmic in teeling, each one singing — some ele- gantly and intimately, some as a primal force. They incorpo- rate powerful biends of rich, vibrant colors to create sensu- ous uplifting imagery. Figures and animals are sometimes incorporated into visionary moods with the subjects as fluid as the abstractions. All of my art is inspired by the boundless capacity of the heart to love. When we consider the state of our world today, it is important to remember that love is the only thing that will ever satisfy us. “Love is a frequency that transforms, heals and fulfills. From this frequency, my art is north shore news ALTERNATIVES Artist's works are friends and teachers born aan inspiration tor peo- ple so they may be lifted and moved by the essence of love, beauty and enchantment.” I asked my friend to exphain how bis life and art may be justifiably construed as “alter- native.” “How is my approach to finding homes for my paint- ings different from what artists have done traditionally? T now approach lite trom the inside out, rather than the other way around. Most people are working on changing their outer experience and condi- tions, like their job, their home or theie relationships, in an attempt to make themselves happy. After many years of try- ing that, 1 realized that manip- ulating those outer conditions didn’t give me any lasting hap- piness. It’s exhausting trying to alter my world, or my feel- ings. Now my focus is on rest- ing and accepting. Resting in the silence of my heart, treat- ing myself with loving kind- ness even when I notice I am angry with myself, another or the world. “J am interested in resolv- ing all conflict within myself as gendy and kindly as possible so that [ may contribute only kindness and peace. “When [am out [ like to sce people, really see them. | like to be a place where they can rest from the busyness of their world ... to be present with myselfin n their presence so they can fet go of the thought that they are in this world all alone. The more | am a friend to myself, the more I can be 4 friend for everyone [ meet and the more my paintings reflect this warmth and kindness. “Since my carly childhood, I did things differently. 1 had to find my own way. | have burned with a passion to do just that. I have had questions and I was on fire to find answers, Questions like: What do I really want? If f have what I say I want, what will it give me? So what is it E want more than anything? Whar inspires me? When do I feel most alive? Flow can I live moment to moment in love, passion, freedom? These ques- tions have led and continue to lead to an inner wealth more precious than any treasure — rest from the anxiety of the mind, the ability to drink in love and beauty, and a con- tentment so tull it overflows with passion and joy. This is a wealth worth living for. “Miy paintings are my friends and teachers, ea: one an opening and an expression of the freedom of spirit that lives within me. Themes of lib- eration, aliveness, victory, pas- sion and freedom consistently find expression on my canvas. With each new paiming, quict jov and an ever-present love deepens. F am so full of grati- tude thar mr life’s unfolding as it is. “Tam often asked, ‘How is it that you have become so successful?” This gratitude has played an enormous part — and the willingness to express that gratitude. There is so much to be graterul for if we just look. Gratitude creates a resonance that makes success inevitable and is 2 key ingredi- ent to happiness here and now. Success comes from happiness, not the other way around. I ~TOCAL a artist Spar. Street with onze of his colorful 1 celebrity paintings.
