soimvemdoterac SURRY Actor wins YTV award A NORTH Vancouver resident will soon be winging her way to Toronto to accept a cov- eted award from YTV. By Deana Lancaster Contributing Writer Aidan Pendleton is a 17- year-old acting and musical dynamo. But don’t expect her to tell you that — her own horn isn't one of the instruments she plays. In fact, Pendleton tries not to let her suc- cess go to her head at “When I first start- ed acting, I was all excited, telling every- one.” she said. “I’ve learned not to do that now, because people change when they hear you're doing some- thing like that. They try to use you or what- . ever. You find out pret- ty quickly who your friends are.” She won't be able to hide her latest accomplishment, though. Pendleton was the winner in the acting cate- gory for ‘the YTV Achievement Awards. More than 1,500 nominations were received in 15 categories. Pendleton said she’s happy to have. won, but she knows many of the other finalists in’ the acting category and she attributes her win to nothing more than luck. “It’s so much what you actually get the chance to show off." The judges screened a clip of Pendleton acting in Dangerous Offender, a movie soon to be aired on CBC. It’s the story of the first woman to be declared a dangerous offender in Canada. The only thing they couldn’t film her at was acting. Pendleton has taken a year off as she finishes her Grade 12 year at York House, a pri- vate schoo! for girls in Vancouver. “T didn’t want to suddenly have these chunks where I'd - miss tons of school and maybe not graduate with my class.” She wants to main- tain her grades because she’s not positive that acting is it for her. “There’s so much rejection, and you never know when you're going to be working. It’s kind of wavy. But. of course, when you actuaily get a job and you actually hook into, something, it’s great.” She has also been studying music serious- ly since she was very young. The time is fast approaching when she will soon have to choose between music and acting. She's putting off a decision until after she gradu- ates. Of course if neither music nor acting work out for her, Pendleton has one permanent part-time job.
