Teen arrested at Park Royal

A17-YEAR-OLD male, of no fixed address, was apprehended on Tuesday
after he allegedly tried to cash a stolen $200 gift certificate at The Gap
store in Park Royal Shopping Centre,

The gift certificate, along with a cellular phone, had been stolen from a
car on March 28 in West Vancouver, according to a West Vancouver
Police spokesman. ..

The cellular phone was also recovered in the incident.

The teen was held in police custody, He faces a charge of possession of
Stolen property.

Coun. Barbara Perreault, who
heads the city’s Advisory Design
Panel, said Cambridge has already
ignored two previous council resolu
lions to adhere to a comprehensive
design policy for mall signage.

The current dispute surrounds a
planned freestanding pylon sign to be
phiced in a planter near the entrance
to Woolco.

“Planters were designed for (a
specific) purpose,” said Perreault.

City council wrangles with
restaurant's sign application

The two-part recommendation
required council to go ahead with the
application and send 2 strongly word-
ed letter informing Cambridge that
no signage plains will be processed
until council receives a response.

While council unanimously sup-
ported the latter part, there was dis-
igreement over approving the appli-
cation,

Coun. Stella Jo Bean said she
wanted nothing to do with the appli-
cation, Cailing the staff recommenda-
tion “inefficient and ineffective,”

Coun, John Braithwaite agreed,
wondering how long council was
going to tolerate Cambridge's atti+
tude,

“Obviously, Cambridge ignored
requests to bring forth a scheduled
plan a year ago. HW they continue to
ignore us, what is our option?"

But the other councillors present
and Mayor Jack Loucks accepted the
staff explanation for proceeding with
the spplication,
