They represent the same thing as many serious art forms. They communicate endless love. They are archetypes of our own condition. People who come to me for counselling sit next to a sacred art form, a rather beautiful teddy bear. Heart Master Da Avabhasa points out that teddy bears are universally loved. They are treated as intimate companions, by both chiidren and adults. Their presence is comforting and healing because they are used magically, as substitutes for the love that is felt to be absent in others, in the total universe and in self. They are a traditional image of harmlessness, non-violence, or non-2ggression. They suggest the “‘methods’’ of love and self-giving — the primary ideals found in all religious traditions. Considering the force of what is communicated in, for example, a classic image of a seated Buddha or Mickey Mouse, Heart-Master Da discovered that the teddy bear is an even more primitive expres- sion of this energy. “The teddy bear is a primitive archetype for our true Self-Nature (or the transcendental and inher- ently Spiritual Divine Self and Person that always already stands free at the heart, prior to budy- mind) and is prior even to the “soul” that survives the changes and the deaths of the body and mind. The classic teddy bear is serene and happy, but also serious, a sign of the human character in a completely: Blissful state.”" . But the way we relate to these archetypes reveals the primal ac- tivity that separates “us from all apparent others and things, and | that is the root of all suffering. This is the illusion of relatedness; the presumption of being dif- ferent, separate, in relationship, whereas, in fact, there is only One being, only One Absolute Con- sciousness of which every individ- ual or thing is but the apparent modification. The lesson to be learned from - the teddy bear: If it can be felt and accepted that a teddy bear is not really a ‘‘person’? (or an other), the iflusion of relatedness previously felt in its ‘‘company’’ becomes obv.ous. That same illu- sion is the basis of egoity and al! relationships of the ego — ‘‘1.’” Therefore, to transcend ego, one best understand and transcend the illusion of relatedness. The ego — “I’’ is the feeling-illusion of separateness and relatedness which projects one away from the Native Consciousness and into the search for ‘‘things’’ and ‘‘others” and “objects.’’ Only when this is observed and understood is there restoration to the Truth, which is Consciousness: itself, where you stand.
