AUTOMOTIVE Jew magazine focuses on West Coast driving Greg Witson AUTOMOTION A NEW motoring magazine will be coming to British Columbia next month. Appropriately titled BC Motor- ing, this full-color monthly maga- zine will feature articles about travelling in B.C., tocal automotive events and per- sonalities, car comparisons, and motoring issues of concern to British Columbians. Vancouver Sun columnist and co-host of the TV show Driver's Seat Tony Whitney is editor- in-chief, Whitney claims BC Motoring will have something of interest for every B.C. motorist. “There’s going to be a lot about touring, where to go in B.C. and so forth. There are a lot of new Canadians in Vancouver who don’t know the area ... and even a lot who’ve lived here all their fives who don’t know the area,’’ he chuckles. ‘‘We'’re going to explore the whole region, Brit- ish Columbia, the Pacific Nor- thwest, Washington and Oregon, and maybe wander into Alberta.”’ Whitney promises to give a B.C. perspective on motoring events and personalities. “There'll be a fot on car culture,’’ says Whitney. ‘‘The first issue has a _ spread on Kane Rogers, a B.C. automotive artist who has become internationally famous.”* The May issue also features a story on concept cars, and a look at the future. Whitney claims the magazine will cover environmental and safety matters, such as electric vehicles and air bags. Other topics to be covered in future issues in- clude articles on car care, driver education, and traffic safety. “‘In the first issue we’ve got an interesting article on car colors. Why are cars the colors they are? Is it because people choose them, or is it because the manufacturers determine that that’s what you’re going to like?”’ BC Motoring will also be doing regular vehicle comparison tests to help buyers with vehicle purchase choices. “This is something that few magazines in Canada are doing right now, looking at two cars in the same market slot and compar- ing them. We’re not going to make the final decision on these models, we'll leave that to the readers.” Whitney is careful to stress that BC Motoring is not just for car enthusiasts. “It’s not a car buff’s magazine. Car buffs will like it, they'll get a lot out of it, yes, but it’s for everybody who owns a car.”” BC Motoring will also be less technically oriented than many car magazines. “There'll be some features on car maintenance, but generally speaking, car maintenance is Seen BC MOTORING’S first issue will feature automotive artist Kane MAY 1997 $2.00 Rogers and a story on concept cars. something you just can’t do like you used to,’’ says Whitney. “*You can’t fiddle with your car as much because it’s all computeriz- ed. So we recommend people get their cars serviced by their dealer- ships.’” Whitney says he’s gathered some of the best automotive writers in the province to assure the quality of the editorial. ‘*These people know Van- couver, and know British Colum- bia,’’ he says enthusiastically. He’s also enthusiastic about the look of the magazine. “It's a full-color magazine, heavy stock, first class,’ he says. “It’s really neat.” DISC BRAKES Lobour Only Parts Extra - SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE: $99.88 COOLING SYSTEM INSPECTION & FLUSH B cucgesten RETAIL PRICE: $39. a Tom Scull Service Manager Copies of BC Motoring will be available in some automobile dealerships, newsstands and acces- sory stores but the best way to get it is by subscribing, says Whitney. “Right now, we're offering a free three-month subscription of- fer.
