FATHER/CHILD YMCA Family
Programs foster understanding
and companionship between boys,
girls and their dads.

This program uses the close-knit
structure of Indian tribes for fa-
thers and sons or daughters to get
to know each other better and
spend quality time together.

A group of five to eight fathers
and their children form a tribe in
or near their neighborhood. Each
tribe decides when io meet and
how frequently.

The YMCA provides resource
staff, materials and assists in the

organization of Nation events
such as the Induction Ceremony,
Potlach Event, Family Picnic and
Camp Elphinstone Retreat
Weekend.

The tribal chiefs (one parent
from each tribe) usually meet each
month to plan the Nation events.
Ideas are exchanged on tribal ac-
tivities, stories and games.

Dads can come to an informa-
tion night Thursday. Oct. 3, 7:30
p.m. at the West Vancouver YM-
