Arts festival considered
for West Vancouver

WEST Vancouver District Ald.
Pat Boname moved recently that
the tentative plans for a West
Vancouver Arts and Music Festi-
val be referred to the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Commission,
the North Shore Arts Council and
the West Vancouver Community
Arts Council for their comment.

The plans have been put
together by West Vancouver parks
director Kevin Pike.

With the week of Aug. 14 to 21
as the possible date for the festi-
val, organizers are planning to
have the festival showcase local
talent and promote West Van-
couver as a unique commumity.

The festival will provide cultural
opportinities for all residents, and
the event’s organizers hope that
the festival will invite participation
on a community level.

Another objective is to bring

the business and arts sectors
together, allowing for future rela-
tionships and opportunities to
grow.

The various festival activities
will take place at indoor and out-
door facilities throughout the
municipality. The festival could
possibly be integrated with the
provincial Music *91 Community
Showcase program.

The committee is still looking at
various concepts for the festival
and what the scope of its theme
will be.

It will cost the municipality
about $13,000 to organize the fes-
tival.
