At its regular Monday night
meeting, council was urged by the
Ambleside and Dundarave
Ratepayers Association (ADRA) to
back a plan by the West Van-
couver School Board to secure a
$100,000 grant from the GO BC
fund.

Council also agreed to set aside
$50,000 in this year's municipal
budget for improvements to the
running track.

‘There is not a worthwile track
in all of West Vancouver. | do feel
it’s very important that some sort
of community message go forward
to Victoria for help in reestablishi-
ng this track,’"’ ADRA president
George Murrell said.

Murrell charged that ‘‘certain
people are trying to sabotage our
project’’ by urging the provincial
government to reject the request
for funding.

Murrell, who said he knows who
is working against the running
track plan but refused to reveal
who it is, said the motive behind
the attempt is to convince Victoria
to hand over funds for a ‘‘world
class’? track on the North Shore
instead of giving a grant for im-
provements to the track at West
Vancouver Secondary School.

“I take very seriously this un-
derground work to sabotage our
project,”’ he said.

In supporting the motion to
lobby Victoria for funds to im-
prove the running track, council
also agreed to ask West Van-
couver-Howe Sound MLA John
Reynolds to continue holding the
funds for the development of an
outdoor presentation area in
Ambleside Park.
