Thomas Tylka, 35, was nominated after he developed what he calls the TNT-FM Integrated Audio System, which uses a special speaker with direct audio input to his student’s personal FM hearing aids. Tylka said the system both amplifies sound for the hearing impaired and reduces the background noise that would normally be picked up by hearing aids. The impact of the system is significant: Students once frustrated with the distortions heard through their hearing aids Record park visits predicted THE GREATER Vancouver Regional District has estimated visits to such Lower Mainland parks as Capilano River Regional Park will reach an all-time high this year. Officiats estimate that close to three million visits will be made to the 15 GVRD parks in 1988, which would be an increase of 12 per cent over 1987 and an increase of 60 per cent since 1984. More than one third of the 1988 total (J.1 million) will be visits to the three regional parks in the North Shore area: Capilano, Lynn Headwaters and Bowen Island's Crippen park. The most heavily used park in the regional system continues to be Capilano, which is projected to have 995,000 visits this year, an increase of 35 per cent over 1987. The increase is largely attributed to North Shore tourist promotion. Lynn Headwaters, which at 4,000 hectares is the largest GVRD park, will attract an estimated 69,000 visits in 1988, while Crip- pen will attract 75,000, GVRD parks cover more than 7,000 hectares.
