Ellis won for her first novel The Baby Project, a poignant story of a young girl coping with the loss of a baby sister. The award was announced at the B.C. Book Prizes gala awards evening held Oct. 30 at the Pan Pacific Hotel. This is the first time an award has been made for children’s literature. Another Canadian children’s author, Allen Morgan, will be at the Lynn Valley branch Friday, Nov.-27 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to liebrated talk to students in grades one through three. Morgan is author of Mathew and the Midnight Towtruck and other books. Teachers wishing to bring their classes to either author visit are asked to contact children’s librari- an Alison Haupt at 984-0286 to reserve space as seating is limited. The Capilano branch, 3045 Highland Blvd., is celebrating the festival with a Canadian Children’s Book Title contest.
