first week in June 1985 to be
Welcome Wagon week in
honor of 55 years of com-
munity service.

Welcome Wagon” was
named for the Conestoga
wagons, In the frontier days,
as wagon trains passed
through small communities,
the settlers would send these
wagons, laden with supplies,
to greet them in the hope of
enticing them to stay and
settle in their small towns.

Since 1930 Welcome
Wagon hostesses have been
greeting people who have
moved to North and West
Vancouver. giving them civic
and social information about
this area {including maps,
brochures, pamphlets
describing places of interest
or recreational activities, bus
schedules, health informa-
tion) and presenting
house-warming gifts from
local participating
businesses. They also visit
new business executives,
seniors, college students, and
congratuate brides-to-be as
well as new and expectant
