THREATENED W. VAN SCHOOLS

Rental plans

precede closures

THEY have not been of-
ficially closed yet. But when
and if the five schools slated
for closure in West Van get
the final approval, they shall
be made available for alter-
native use on a rental or
lease basis only.

Despite an attempt by
trustee Fran McDowell to
not allow use of vacated
public schools by private
schools, the board approved

a policy which will allow
them to use the facilities.

Priorities for the use of
closed or partially closed
schools include: alternative
uses by School District No.
45, educational use by pre-
school groups; educational
use by post-secondary in-
stitutions; use by community
groups; use by government
agencies; use by private
schools and use by other
enterprises.

Pre-school groups would
get the best rate however.
renting or leasing on the
basis of estimated annuai
operating costs.

For community groups,
rental would be on the basis
of the board’s published
schedule of rental rates. All
other organizations, groups
or enterprises will pay a fee
as determined by the board
on the basis of prevail...
market rates.

Died avoiding car

A DRIVER who swerved to
avoid a car pulling out of a
driveway in North Van-
couver Sunday afternoon
died when his car rolled end-
for-end twice.

However, a passenger of
the vehicle was not injured
in the accident which oc-
cured on Handsworth Road
at 1:50 p.m.

RCMP report that the
driver, 28-year-old Lloyd
Leslie of 216 East Braemar.
North Van, was killed in-
stantly when the car he was
driving hit a curb and rolled
end-for-end twice after
swerving to avoid a collision
with the car pulling onto the
