He said later he was “frankly en- couraged” by his reception, and said several workers who traditionally voted Liberal were now con- sidering supporting the NDP “This is a major trend,” he said. In the May election, the NDP only picked up five percent of the popular vote in Quebec, and was beaten in several ridings by the Rhinoceros Party, which runs candidates to mock and ridicule politics. The NDP has never won a scat in Liberal-dominated Quebec.
