The strong currents can get you in trouble quickly. If you are going to anchor in a strong tidal area, such as near the marker at the river mouth, make sure you have enough chain and a good anchor. A general rule of thumb is 3 feet (1 metre) of chain per foot of hull length. In addition, placing a couple of large floats on the end of your anchor rope will allow you to un- tie your anchor line and chase a large chinook as it runs in the current.
