28 ~ Friday, November 11, 1988 - North Shore News RECREATION REPS ‘V teens sought THE WEST Vancouver Recreation Centre is looking for enthusiastic teenagers who are willing to be leaders in a new youth programming venture. AIRWVS — Active Inventive Recreation for West Van Students — will be a group consisting of teen representatives from each West Vancouver high school who will interact with recreation centre staff in planning youth events for the community. Jill Deering at the recreation centre said that the idea came from a B.C. Parks and Recreation Associa- tion conference that was held in the Interior in May. Many of the towns represented at the conference had simiiar teen programs that were found to be very suc- cessful. The second organizational meeting for AIRWVS will be held at the recreation centre, 780-22nd St., on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. At the first meeting, held Oct. 20, teens who at- . tended suggested some ‘‘great’’ ideas and plans for upcoming events. Deering invites West Vancouver high school stu- dents to “‘join us for the second planning meeting to give your input, meet new people and become part of this dynamic new teen program.”’ ‘We'd like to get a good core group of leaders,”’ said Deering. The rec centre is hoping to get at least one representative from each grade in each West Vancouver high school.
