Expensive West Vancouver condo encased in plastic

OWNERS of a plastic-sheathed
building in West Vancouver have
launched a lawsuit to recover the
costs of their home repair.

John Mendes, the lawyer for the seven homeowners
in the seven-storey complex, said the six-year-old build-
ing has a leakage problem

In the suit, the homeowners have named 15 defen
dants, including the District of West Vancouver.

argue their condo complex has suffered deficiencies
arising, from faulty or improper materials, workmanship

and design. The 17 particulars contained in a statement
of claim filed May 2, 1996, include assertions that:

@ the condo building’s exterior is inadequately water-
proofed and does not meet the requirements of the
British Columbia Building Code;

@ water has entered the construction joints of the
structural frame causing corrosion and other damage to
the finishes;

@ discharge air vents from clothes dryers installed in
the strata lots are connected tu exhaust air vents from
the ensuite bathrooms;

last Monday.

It started with the young politi-
cian receiving an unpleasant sur-

early afternoon.

“Twas just at city hall doing
some stuff and I came home and
saw a bag of mine full of CDs,” said
Mussatto.

he had just walked into, Mussatto
took off his shoes and approached
