By A.P. McCredie Sports Reporter Following a 5-1 drubbing of _Malaspina College in semi-final action last Friday, the lady Blues met Vancouver Community Col- lege in Coquitlam to decide who would advance to the national championships in Montreal. Dur- ing regular season play, VCC edg- ed Capilano 43 in their only Meeting. Unfortunately for the league- leading Blues, the outcome of their BCCAA final last Saturday was the same. VCC edged the Blues 2-1 to claim the provincial title, and more importantly, a berth in the nationals. One bright spot for the Capilano squad was the naming of forward -Silvana Burtini as the top striker in the tournament. In coincidental fashion, the Capilano men’s team advanced to theie BCCAA final match against VCC by defeating Malaspina 5-1 following the lady Blues’ semi- final on Friday. GAME OF THE WEEK Unfortunately for the league- leading men’s side, the coin- cidences did not end there. In the final, also in Coquitlam, regular season second-place VCC edged out Capilano 2-1, ending Capilano’s season-long undefeated streak and their quest for a national title. In their only other meeting this year, the score was the same but Capilano was th. winning side. Going into the weekend provincial champion- ships, the Blues were the No. I- ranked team in the country. Capilano player Darren Nott was named the top defender in the tournament. Capilano College’s athletic director Joe lacobelli said that what makes the men’s loss even more disappointing is that only about half the existing team will be returning next season for the Blues. The ‘what ifs’’ are sure to haunt the Capilano players, both men and women, for quite some time. THROW INS ...
