Lae Hamilton Bank, 92 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver (1910-1911) -——Hamilton Bank——= THE BANK of Hamilton Chambers building, situated on a prominent corner loca- tion in the Lower Lonsdale area, is one of the primary heritage sites in North Van- couver City. The bank was built in 1910- 1911. Its architects were Mills and Hutton, who designed the adja- cent Aberdeen Block. The original contractors were Booker, Camp- bell and Whipple — a large local firm. Its architectural design is known as the Edwardian Commercial style, and features highly articu- lated main facades, an angled corner entry, elaborately carved classical detailing and_ pilasters with lonic capitals. The building’s brick and sand- stone cladding appears to be in good condition and has been well-maintained, although there has been some visible weathering of the painted sandstone carving. This three-storey structure, with its full basement, originally hous- ed the Bank of Hamilton Chambers, an early important fi- nancial institution, which later merged with the Union Bank after the financial depression of 1913.
