40 - Wednesdays. July 18. 1990 - North Shore News Foop It's time to stop lunacy on Seymour Parkway I TRY to stay off the soapbox, especially avoiding political subjects. Today is different. How many more deaths do we need before the Mount Seymour Parkway is renamed the “Deathway"? The hideous acci- dent fast weekend is another in a frightening series of fatalities on that dangerous piece of K.ghway. budget beaters Barbara McCreadie Now, the district, in complete lunacy, has spent a fortune in taxpayers’ dollars to narrow the road even more — installing or- namental dividers, full of trees and flowers that limit visibility, especially for drivers making left turns on or off the Parkway. If you want to watch the sport of “‘rat racing’? just travel the Parkway late at night, especially on weekends. It's one of the favorite spots on the North Shore for idiots with lead feet and cot- ton brains. The Parkway needs a lower speed limit, strictly enforced. What's wrong with installing a few of those hidden cameras to keep the speeders in line? We need more traffic fights, strict law enforcement and, for those unfortunates living north of the Parkway, perhaps an alternate route, We who Jive on the south side have ai choice of using the Dollarton which is no piece of cake cither. A friend of mine whose home backs onto the Parkway is all set to follow in the steps of a few In- dian bands and blockade the road until something is done. — prom- ised him that if he does Wil be right beside him.” keke On a sunny winter day, our house is a joy. The sun streams through the big windows in the back all morning and through the front all afternoon. In the summer, it's as close to hell as you can get without a funeral. By noon, yesterday, it was 92F, I closed the kitchen, covered the typewriter and went out of business. Today, it’s only 88F and there's a breeze through — how often do you get a W-E around here? Next-to-never on a hot day. My first requirement, if we ever mov- ed (we won't!) would be a Nor- th-South exposure. You know it’s too damn hot when Timmy sprawls, belly-up in front of a fan I've set on the din- ing room floor. Emily is on a chair, tucked under a table, a few feet from one of the open win- dows. She hasn’t moved all day. The others have walked out on me for the day. Frankly, the thoughe of food isn't high on my list — last night: we ate burgers at the Raven and the night before, a friend and § dined on hot dogs at the Track. We staked our last $12, boxed the Triactor and missed by one number. Enough said. That nearly $900) purse might have bought something better than hot dogs. Salads, cold soups and drinks are my choice for week.
