Day cares get grants

SOCIAL SERVICES and Housing
Minister Claude Richmond recent-
ly announced his ministry provided
more than $144,000 in grants dur-
ing the 1986-87 fiscal year to day-
care centres operated by non-profit
societies throughout the province.

‘*These grants are made
available to assist day-care opera-
tors with needed emergency repairs
or relocation when necessitated by
the sale or demolition of a
building, termination of lease, or
change in usage of the premises,’’
said Richmond.

In addition to the day-care
grants program for the preserva-
tion of day-care spaces, the
ministry also operates a parental
day-care subsidy program, several
day-care support programs, and a
special needs day-care program.

There will be three trips a day in
each direction on weekdays and a
limited service on Saturdays.

The service is being conducted
on @ one-year trial basis, on the
understanding that Lions Bay resi-
dents will use the service.

“Lions Bay is a growing com-
munity,"’ said Johnston, ‘‘and we
recognize that. The new service
will make it easier for residents of
all ages to gain access to other
areas through our excellent transit
system.”’

West Vancouver-Howe Sound
MLA John Reynolds said: ‘‘We've
been working to provide transit
service to the Lions Bay communi-
ty for some time and now it’s
becoming a reality. It’s great! I'm
positive many members of the
community will make use of the
new service.”

The new #259) service leaves
Lions Bay underpass at 6:55 a.m.
and 9:20 a.m. and 6 p.m. every
weekday, and departs downtown
Vancouver in the opposite direc-
tion at 8:15 a.m. and 5:05 p.m.
and 7:35 p.m. weekdays.

The #259 service provides a
direct service to Horseshoe Bay
ferry terminal, downtown Van-
couver, or Park Royal, West Van-
couver.
