Warm ups are vital

IS IT really necessary to warm up
before heavy exercise?

People often ignore the warm-up
because they want to get im-
mediately into the exercise. But
few people, including exercise en-
thusiasts, realize the significance of
preparing the body for strenuous
work.

A combination of rhythmical
and relaxed activities —- walking,
slow jogging, arm circles — will

body temperature, thereby warm-
ing the muscles in preparation for
the activity.

Try warming up by performing
movements that simulate the actual
activity. Mobilization of joints
throvgh warm-up is helpful in the
prevention of muscle soreness or
injury during heavier exercise.

The length of a warm-up de-
pends on the type of activity to
follow, but generally five to eight

Waiters heads soccer tour

WEST VANCOUVER'S Tony
Waiters is organizing a two-week
World of Soccer European soccer
tour scheduled to depart May 2.
The tour will take in a half
dozen soccer matches involving the
best English and European teams.
Games scheduled on the tour in-
clude Liverpoo] against Watford

May 4, the Canadian All-Stars
against the Southport Amateurs
May 5 and Sampdoria against
Roma on May 10.

The tour is being organized in
conjunction with Falcon Travels.
