B4 - Wednesday, September 29, 1982 - North Shore News sport a Everbody wins these games The West Vancouver Recreation Centre is hosting a Co-operative Games Workshop on Sunday, October 3. In co-operative games everybody wins - nobody loses. People play with one another rather than against one another. Sally Olsen, the workshop leader from Ottawa, has conducted many workshops in co-operative games playing across Canada. As a consultant to Dr. Terry Orlick who has written many books on the subject. Olsen is a strong advocate of the co-operative games movement. These games can be played anywhere at anytime a group of people come together for fun. Children as young as three years are capable of working together as a unit if the games are presented in clear and simple steps. Co-operative games provide an alternative to the highly organized and strongly goal oriented sports. If children fail, they may withdraw and learn to avoid competition. If there is no alternative, these children may never discover the enjoyment of participation in sports and games. The workshops are primarily for instructors or teachers working with pre- school or school age children in a recreational or teaching situation. However, anyone is welcome to at- tend. . Session I will be held from 9:00 AM - 12 Noon and will deal mainly with the 6 - 12 year old group. Session I will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 PM and will deal with the preschool age group. Cost is $4.00 per session or $6.00 to attend both sessions. Activity will be the order of the day so come prepared to participate.
