Night

School

Hands up, those who
remember when there wasn't
night school. Seems hard to
believe when nowadays the
variety of courses is limited
only by our imaginations.

Hard to believe, too, that
night school was begun
during the depression in

order to help those who
couldn't read or write, to
make job hunting for them
easier. Well, the reading and
writing course is still there,
from time to time, but it’s
pretty well lost in the
bountiful list of educational,
fun and activity courses
offered season after season.
Naturally, there are new
ones again for your winter
season.

Last week's column of-
fered suggestions for a gift
plus course for those people
on your list. Here are two
more to add to that list: How
about suggesting to all those
who love you that they go
together and get you a
gorgeous new carpet for the
livingroom, along with a
course on “Carpet Laying” --
this is really only a mini-
course, with two sessions, so
it won't take up nearly as
much of your time as if you
didn't take it, and tned to do
everything by tnal and error.
Even if you don’t get the rug
for Christmas, (the old
meanies!) keep the course in
mind. It could come in
