A WEST Vancouver res-
ident is lobbying North
Shore councils and the
North Shore Health
Board for support in the
creation of helicopter
landing facilities on the
North Vancouver water-
front,

Stephen Mullins, presi-
dent of Astar Business

Technology Ine., wants to
build and operate what he
calls a “waterfront: commu-
nity and emergency helipad”
at one of two sites in North
Vancouver City.

Mullins told = North
Vancouver District Council
Monday night that traffic
gridlock on the North Shore
could significantly delay or
prevent ambulance transfer
of accident victims to main-
land locations such as the
Vancouver Children’s Hos-
pital.

The solution, according
io Mullins, is to use a heli-
copter. The North Shore’s
only helipad was bulldozed
over one yeur ago following
rezoning.

Mullins told the News
that landing fees would pay
for the costs of setting up the
helipad and that additional
charges would be levied for
“noisy” helicopters and
night landings.

He anticipates “two to
five landings a day, every

be told that a community and
emergency helipad on the
North Shore is a critical life-
saving facility and an impor-
tant business asset.
