By lan Noble News Reporter Victoria announced Wednesday a three-fimi team of engineers and contractors has been given contracts to design and build the interchange. The interchange will eliminate a major source of congestion on the Upper Levels Highway. The design-build contract. worth slightly more than $26 million, went to SCI Engineers and Constructors Lid. PBK Engineering Lid. and Urban Systems Ltd. North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA David Schreck said the contnict calls for a firm completion date of June 30, 1997. Incentives for earlier completion are also included in the contract, he added. Schreck said SCI will announce a process for public involvement in the project within the next four weeks, “Work begins now on finalizing plans. but the work people want to see — canh moving — will bezin before fall.” said Schreck. The successful companies have been involved in other projects such as the Castlegar Bridge and Vancouver's Cambie Street Bridge and Cussiar Connector. The government said key features of the Westview Interchange include constructing a six-lane highway underpass at Westview Drive to span six lanes on the Upper Levels Highway, reconstructing about | kilometre (0.6 milc) of the Upper Level Highway from four to six Janes, and seismic retrofiding of the existing 150-metre (492. ft.) arch structure crossing Mosquito Creek. The Jones Avenue pedestrian overpass will also be replaced to span the widened highway. The government says that using a design-build approach rather than the traditional way of separating con- struction and design contracts has saved more than $3 million on the project. “CONSIGNMENT STORE computer er OR \ alles consignment - rc 4 (33 {J {3 tio appointment necessary.
