NV Reform MP White blasts Women’s Monument

MEMBERS OF the Women’s Monu-
ment Committee will not change the
wording on the monument’s dedication
in order to appease the objections of
people like North Vancouver MP Ted
White.

Development Canada.

He described the project as “openly offensive”

alowed to compete for the design award and

The Women’s Monument Project, for which
the Capilano College Women’s Centre is the
founding spansor, intends to erect a monument lo
Murdered Wemen in Vimeouvers Thornton Park.

Khor Warkentin. a member of the Women's

Monument Committee, said the project's focus is
on violence against women. She said statisties
cleazly show that women are more at risk from
violence in their own homes than they are from
randont acts of attacks on the street. According ta
Warkentin, there bas been much discussion
among committee members aver the phrase
“murdered by men.” but there isnt much chance
twill be removed, “We're focusing on this issue
