THE CLYDE Avenue area of
West Vancouver could provide the
opportunity to create the new kind
of “complete community” envi-
sioned by the Greater Vancouver
Regional District as an objective
for the future.

Spaxman reported to West
Vancouver District Council July
25 on the progress made on a uni-
fied concept and plan for the
future development of the area
north of Marine Drive, west of the
Capilano River and east of Taylor
Way.

The one main access to the
enclosed area, off Taylor Way by
the Park Royal parkade, constrains
traffic flow but could also con-
tribute to the building of a com-
pact urban centre with a mixture
of residential and commercial
uses.

Residents and employees
would be able to get around by
walking or cycling.

Spaxman pointed out that the
70% residential and 30% commer-
cial mix contemplated could be
changed to something with a
“higher employment-generating
factor.”

Moving towards this mix will
necessitate an amendment to the
Official Community Plan (OCP).

land owned by the municipality
(currently a parking fot) and
another by the provincial Ministry
