leader’ Gordon Wilson drew on his success in the 1993
election. to emphasize his capability to unite the party and

Wilson, who is fighting to keep

and downs.

‘When | took over in ’87, there
was, really, not a lot of interest in
the job,’’ Wilson said. _

“We didn’t have too many
members, ‘we didn’t have too
much money, and a lot of my
close friends and associates said,
‘Gordon, the price you’re going to
have. to pay if yow’re going to
make this work, is going to be too
high,’ ’’ he said.

“Well, Pil tell you it’s a high
price. I don’t think anybody: in
this room will doubt that I’ve paid
it.”’
