IT’S: TIME to. get that
lawn mower out of storage,

know that thousands of people are
injured every year as a result of
lawn mower accidents, so
remember the following safety tips
for careful mowing.

Always fill a gas mower out of
doors and never smoke while
fuelling a lawn mower or other
gasoline engine.

Gasoline explodes, and even
though the fuel itself does not
come in contact with the cigarette,
the fumes emitted by the gasoline
spread beyond their source.

Always turn the mower off and
let it cool before refuelling.

Sparks from a running motor
can touch off an explosion as you
refuel — a hot engine is also a
danger.

If any fuel spills, wipe it up
immediately, then let the saturated
cloth air out thoroughly in an area
away from any source of heat or
sparks.

create their own heat and that
cloth could start a serious fire if
not allowed to breathe.

Store and pour gasoline careful-
ly. Keep it in an approved con-
tainer with a tight-fitting lid to
keep the vapors inside.

the cord carefully for frayed or
damaged spots, and if you
discover any, have the cord
replaced at a reliable service cen-
tre.

Using an electric mower with a
frayed cord is an invitation to a
lethal electrical shock or severe
electrical burn.

Do not cut wet grass with an
electric mower.

Leave mower servicing (blade
sharpening and electrical repairs)
to the professionals.

If you do your own tune-up
and cleaning, be sure to remove or
disconnect the spark plug before
you begin.

Lawnmowers, like many mod-
ern conveniences, demand respect
and caution. Don’t be careless.

If you have old gasoline to get
rid of, do not pour it into the
