Art for kids fund continues to grow NORTH VANCOUVER District 44 school trustees were briefed Tuesday night on the progress of the ‘‘Ar- tists for Kids’? (4FK) trust fund, which was set up two years ago by administrator Bill MacDonald. By Kevin Gillies Contributing Writer The AFK trust fund is a coop- erative effort between the District 44 board and Canadian artists to provide support for the fine arts in North Vancouver elementary and secondary schoals and the community. Fine arts include visual arts, music, drama, and dance. The trust currently has assets — including prints at current market value — in excess of $1.3 million. Artists donate a master copy of one of their works to the trust. The AFK then produces a number of prints from the master and sells them. All proceeds from the sales go into the trust which District 44 uses to improve its arts cur- ticulum. . The trust’s primary objectives are: @ to provide ongoing fine arts enrichment opportunities for elernentary and secondary students in North Vancouver schools; ®@ to provide scholarships to stu- dents who excel in the fine arts; @ to provide educational oppor- tunities in the fine arts for the community at large; NORTH VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD @ and to generate a collection: of the best Canadian art for the local! community.
