for your valentine

up a batch of cookies and fill them
with bright red raspberry jam for a
tasty twist to a peanut butter
sandwich.
Sweet Heart Cookies

144 cups all purpose flour
i cup sugar
¥2 cup cocoa
¥% tsp baking powder
Ys tsp baking soda
¥ cup butter, softened
Y; cup peanut butter

1 tsp vanilla
Ys cup milk
Sweet Heart Frosting
or raspberry jam

Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa,
baking powder and baking soda.
Cream butter and peanut butter
until light. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Blend in dry ingredients alternately
with milk to form stiff dough.

Chill dough one hour or until
firm enough to roll. Roll dough,
part at a time on lightly floured
board to %-inch thickness. Using a
two-inch heart-shaped cookie cut-
ter, cut aut 48 hearts. From 24 of
the hearts cut out smailer hearts to
make ‘hollow hearts." (Small
hearts may be baked separately.)

Bake cookies in preheated 350°F
oven nine to 10 minutes or until
done. Cool slightly before remov-
ing from pans; cool or spread with
raspberry jam. Place ‘‘hollow’’
hearts on top; press down lightly.
Makes 24 filled cookies.

Sweet Heart Frosting
Combine 2 cups sifted icing
Sugar, ‘4 cup butter, softened, 3
tbsp milk and a few drops of red
food coloring in small mixer bowl.
Beat until smooth. Makes about
1% cups.
