Daniel Arthur Webster was originally charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in connection with a July 22 seizure of 3.6 grams of the drug at the Olymipic Hotel. Appearing before Judge J.D. Layton, Webster pleaded guilty to the lesser inclutied offence of possessien of cocaine. Crown prosecutor James Straith recommended Webster serve the sentence under electronic surveillance, which involves the use of an electronic shackle affixed to tie prisoner's leg to monitor his movements during the term of his sentence. The system allows the prisoner to stay out of prison, but restricts his hours of freedom. Sentencing violations picked up by the monitoring result in the prisoner's being sent immediately to jail to serve his entire term. In addition to the jail sentence, Webster was placed on probation for one year.
