good things to cat in or take
out; she also sold specialty
kitchen items and cooking
ingredients; and she contin-

her Jody’s home base.

Claman worked compul-
sively; connected with her
customers on more than a
business level, talked and
networked; meeted; greeted
and worked the room, 25
they say on the showbiz cir-
cuit.

That’s not to say that

. Claman is in the acting trade
when it comes to doing busi-
ness. Sure, she’s gor a keen
“show me the lettuce” fiscal
sense, but Claman also has a

genuine people touch.
She’s entertaining, ener-

getic and engaging. And she
knows everyone worth know-
ing.

The combination has paid
good dividends.

Claman outgrew the origi-
nal Jody’s (105-1425
Marine} last year and in
November she moved across
the Clyde Avenue brickwork
and opened Jody’s Mark I] in
an old. Clyde Avenue book
store after investing a bundle
in its overhaul.

She now employs 40 pco-
pie and her catering business
is the choice of a wide cast of
characters that ranges from
the pleasant old West
Vancouver couple down the
street to a host of personali-
ties at the top end of the
high society “A” fist.

Coast flower shop with cle-
ments of West Vancouver’s
short-lived Remarkable Dog
thrown in for good energetic
measure.

Apart from being a cater-
ing kitchen and events pro-
duction facility, the new
Jody’s stocks specialty foods,
Rocky Mountain chocolates,
glassware, cooking utensils,
vases, edible flowers, wild
greens, flowers by Hassan,
who apparently everybody
knows about except Table
Hopping staff, and kosher
everything.

It also includes a compact
65-seat self-serve restaurant.

Right now it’s primarily a
sandwich, light entree and
cappuccino bar where the
wayward West Vancouverite
can perhaps tuck into a tow-
ering brick of vegetarian
lasagna, or a square of fresh-

baked focaccia bread wrapped
around slabs of turkey brease
and slathered with red pepper
relish. You might also pick up
a litle Miles Davis on the
soundtrack to help the diges-
tion.

But come the sunimer,
Claman plans to install a bar-
becue and grill in Jody’s
heated 25-seat outdoor patio.

The menu will feature
salmon, sea bass and other
barbecue favourites.

Jody’s hours will be
extended to include dinner
service and the restaurant will
offer a full wine list along
with chilled ales and other
alcoholic beverages.

It will add yet another
facet to Jody’s deli personali-

ty.

“And maybe another 12
hours to its owner’s day,
which will be challenging, to
say the least, but when you’re
wired into Claman’s circuit,
that energy needs to be chan-
nelled somewhere.
