July 1, 1984 CAMPS FOR KIDS WHILE SPRING is the time for baseball on the North Shore, the beginning of summer marks the start of a wide variety of top notch soccer schools for all sizes, shapes and skill levels of players. And while the definition of summer must go sole- ly by the calendar and not the quality of weather, it has not stopped the soccer schools from making their plans for the summer months. Here are three of the schools, two of which are familiar, and the third, somewhat new on this side of the water. EASTON’S BACK It’s a small school in terms of numbers, but for Jim Easton's Soccer Academy, the principle is) individual work with the young players on specific drills rather than a large, open school. Operated and _ instructed by Jim Easton, a 20 year former Scottish professional who was the first ever coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps back in '74 and ’75, the school has become well known throughout the lower mainland over the years. Easton works with young players between the ages of Il and 14 who have played soc- cer and have a _ reasonable degree of skill. The school runs for three hours from five to exght p.m. for a five day period at Norsman Field, 23rd and Lonsdale. At a cost of $35, the school includes 1§ hours of coaching, a souvenir T-shirt, soccer ball, discount on sporting goods at Skyline Sports and 1s held to only IS studenis per class Two courses only wall be held this summer with the first going from July 9 to 14 and the next session from July 1610 20 Learning to operate more efficiently in the framework of team play is the key to this school. While all the in- dividual skills are used, they are used in game situations which forces the young player to keep alert and thinking while doing, creating an exciting fun at- mosphere for the fast paced séss}Ons.. With a brmited enrollment, this school always fills up fast. Registrations can be in person or by mail to Skyline Sports, 119 West 16th Street, North Vancouver, B.C., 985-9161. Tuition fee must accompany registration. The Jim Easton Soccer Academy is run in coopera- tion with the B.C. Dairy Foundation.
