confederation

PROVINCE HOUSE in
Charlottetown, Prince Ed-
ward Island, seat of the Pro-
vincial Legislature, is a na-
tional historic site.

Built between 1843 and
1847 by Island craftsmen, the
impressive three-storey sand-
stone building is the birth-
place of Canadian
confederation.

Brunswick and Prince Ed-
ward Island to discuss pro-
posals for a political union.
The historic conference was
held in the elegant Executive
Council ChamBer, later nam-
ed the Confederation
Chamber in honor of the
event.

There, the sandstone building gave birth to Canadian
confederation. The ‘Confederation chamber’ has been

kept in tact, to preserve the original appearance.
