WITH BREAKFAST Celebrate the morning BREAKFAST ought to be a_ triumphant procession, banners flying. After all, you've survived another night, and you've got another chance. To many people, it seems to be more in the nature of a guerilla attack, and the heck with the banners. Nobody knows where they are at that time of the morning anyway. It’s a matter of scramble, and I don’t mean eggs. Pity. My fixation about breakfast 1s probably just one more hang-over from my outpost upbringing, when the coming day was so fraught with perl that fuelling in anticipation was only common sense. Rather, it’s Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At least, that’s what many Saskatonians will tell you in the wake of a decade-long campaign aimed at = im- proving health and fitness in the prairie city. The ten-year campaign has been tied in with the national Participation program, says Professor Don Bailey of the physical education department at the University of Saskatchewan. “Nationally, Participaction reached most people as a media message through radio, television, newspapers and posters,” says Prof. Bailey. ‘‘In | Fitness city Saskatoon, however, besides the media promotion we had a variety of planned ac- tivities including three in- ternational competitions that resulted in an extremely high level of citizen par- ticipation.” Professor Bailey and two associates surveyed Saskatoon residents about their fitness habits. They compared the survey results with those from a Canada- wide survey carried out by Contemporary Research Centre Ltd. of Toronto. The U of S researchers found that Saskatonians now undertake regular physical activity more often than the average Canadian. Forty- seven per cent of Saskatonians are physically active compared with 37 per cent of people in the rest of the country. good taste speaks for itself This week: Crisp green salad or hearty homemade soup pan fried rainbow trout fresh vegetables potato or nice warm rolls or butter SRr5 Friday and Saturday Live piano music Roast Prime Rib from 5:30 Monday - Saturday 445 - 13th Street, West Van reservations 926-8922 SPECIAL BUY $4900 WHILE THEY LAST ¢ 6''x12''x8'' Shirred Silk Tone Shade * C.S.A.
