[_sansuow | $it-in begins as worker fired A TWO-DAY - shut- down of North Van- couver’s Saskatchewan Wheat Pool ended Friday when a back-to- work order was received from Canada Labor Relations Board in Ottawa. Work had ceased at the wheat pool Wednesday noon when all 137 members of the Grainworkers Union Local 333 began a round-the-clock study session after a worker was suspended without pay. When the afternoon and graveyard shifts reported for work that day they jomed the sit-in and between 40 and 60 union members stayed on the premises overnight Wed- nesday and Thursday. As staff prepared to wait out their dispute, a television set was brought in in read? ness for them to watch Sunday's Super Bowl game. But management respon- ded with an application to the Canada Labor Board for a declaration that the study session was an illegal strike and for a back-to-work order to be made. The application was granted and an order was be- ing served on the employces Friday afternoon instructing them to return to work. Director of the Vancouver office of Canada Labor Rela- tions Board Phil Kirkland said he understood the work stoppage had occurred as a result of an employee being disciplined and suspended without pay. Wheat pool supernten- dent Keith Broeder told the News that management had “no comment on the situa- tion whatsoever.” However, a 10-year employee of the pool main- tamed that the disciplined worker had been “dismissed without just cause.” The action, he said, was taken against the employce, a sweeper, for being off his work area while making a phone call to a foreman to check which grain bin he should be using. “At 5’4’’ I weighed over 200 pounds...”’ /]| MONTH S20tE AND MAINTENANCE CENTER LUNDA MacKINNON North Vancouver Through the Nv TTH SHORE WEIGHT the motivation discipline and persistence to return to my tonmer weight on ther personalized reducing plan HH your weight rrobtem seema ondess {hope my achtevernernt wf motivate you to enrofi on the program hat worked tor me no machines pifis stra GXOTCISES oF qroup Seasaiowis Kuen LD acNenaner . tow yeme FREE om. sates proanmno appoentnwant aloe Cane try terniny WEIcHT 985-0458 eo ™ Son. 00) Bb aomdate Mall 1124 Lomsdale Neos base bith: S ROOD aD ponte a lene ont) oe A3 - Sunday News, January 24, 1982 ALSO INSIDE Where to dump it?
