Fears of potential

disasters facing~ the
North Shore came
within. a hair of

materializing Tuesday
morning when a truck
carrying highly
plosive oxyacetylene
cannisters tipped over
and crashed on East
29th. Sereet in North
Vancouver. .

Families in the 400 block
East 29th. were evacuated
and the RCMP cordoned off
the area as fire fighters
hosed down the truck with
foam and righted the can-
nisters that had spilled all
over the street.

“They were lucky, they
were really lucky,” an
RCMP spokesman said,
referring to the fact that
everybody involved in the
incident escaped injury.

The accident occured
shortly before 11 a.m.

A Quebec man has
been charged for the
$10,000 robbery at the
Park Royal South
branch of the Royal
Bank two weeks ago.

Three men were arrested
Saturday in a Vancouver
Hotel and charges of armed
robbery were laid as a result
of various holdups in the
Vancouver area, as well as
the West Vancouver rob-
bery

The arrests were the result
of a joint” investigation

Charpentier,
Quebec.

Oswald has been charged
with armed robbery and with
using a firearm during the
commission of an offence.
He was due to appear in
provincial court in West
Vancouver yesterday
(Tuesday) afternoon.

West Van Police are
laying no charges against
Charpentier or Brown at this
