By JAMES JARVIS. In the last article we explored the character, challenge, - and potential of the walk from Bridgeman Park -to the tower at the mouth of -Lynn Creek. Now try goirig the other . way. I found a lot of -aarprises along the three mile hike up to “the Lynn - Ecology Centre in Lynn ‘Canyon Park. It.-was good exercise too. You can begin the hike at the south-east corner of the “ Keith Road bridge at Bridg- man Park -- near Mountain Highway and Keith Road. The path will take you north under the bridges to a road that parallels Lynn Creek. _Take this road up stream. The first part of this hike is a bit distasteful for it goes by the North Vancouver sanitary landfill. It’s not a pleasant landscape, but the view of the west side of the Creek is beautiful and the road does provide easy walking. The enormity and scale of this landfill is overpowering. _ We produce huge amounts of garbage -- 430 tons a day from the North Shore. It has quite an impact on -the environment. Recycling does make sense. All is not lost however. It will be turned into a golf course and park when full. When you reach the northern extreme of the landfill you have a choice of two routes to follow. Either stay along the stream edge and follow the narrow road or walk east (right) along the base of the landfill until you find a patch of grass. It’s about two thirds of the distance from the road to the Canyon - . . ae natural hill side. This marks the entrance to the old trail that will meet with the one running along the Creek. .After you’ve gone 50 feet in you. won't. believe your senses. a ; _ it’s a rain forest. It’s pristine. It’s quiet | mysterious. Moss hangs from all the Big Leaf and Vine Maples. Angled swords of light (shades of Superman - A Movie) strike through the mist from the forest canopy above to the bog below. It’s a magical place be” cause within the space of 60 Boe ry t and. seconds you’ve gone from. garbage to paradise. The contrast is powerful... Walk through this forest slowly, savor it. Lots-of salmon berries and huckleberries here. Good eating froni May to August. Further ‘up the trail the canyon begins to form about the creek. It narrows and deepens. The creek noisier, more turbulent, more robust. Along here are a number of trails to the left that take you down to the creek. ‘ _ CONTINUED ON PAGE 33 EdPeters _ The appointment of Ed Peters as Manager of the Edgemont Branch of the’ Bank of Montreal in North Vancouver is announced by Ed White, District Manager, B.C.
