Be careful. When you visit Ted's “tempi of twigs”, the
rustic bug might bite you. That's what North West Rustic
Furnishings’ owner, Ted Ingham said happened wo him
seven years ayo. Ted created a heritage canopy bed for
himself and his wife from pecled alder poles and he says he
hasn't fooked back since. Today, seven years later, the
furniture craftsman now operates a thriving rustic
Furnishings business, complete with che North Shore's only
wood storage and seasoning loft come showroom. “I rake
my clients upstaizs to my temple of rwigs. It looks like a
strange forest of branches. logs and furniture,” says Ted,

In the early days, ‘Fed was able tw pet enough materials for
his wood creations by combing forest ruads for alder, pine
and cedar. Now char his business has grown and he's

“branched” into other woods such as arbutus, birch, cherry,

and BC Highways. But Ted isn't entirely old-fashioned in

ST his approach to furniture making. He does use today's
S environmentally friendly super glues for durability and he

enjoys creating new comfortable designs to fit our 21
century lifestyles. “I enjoy the speciality items.” he says.
“The design possbilities are as limitless ay the shapes of the
wood.” Rustic furnishings are undergoing a renaissance,
says Ted, and the trend is sweeping across North America.
So much so thar his customers are now coming to him for
rustic furniture workshops and do it yourself kits.“ Hike to
encourage people to learn these techniques.” he says. “I have
a passion for working with wood.” Would be furniture-

And what piece of furniture does Ted like making best? His
first luve...the bed, of course. “People spend one-third of
their lives in bed. I've made hundreds of chem. it's an honor.”
