A recent request to North Vancouver District Council for an exclusive bus driver's biffy at the top of Lynn Valley Road provided for some bathroom humor in the debate. But while the request may well have merit, especially if you are a bus driver who had a cup of coffee at Lonsdale Quay thirty minutes ago, a more interesting proposition was tendered by Lynn Valley Community Association president Dan Ellis. While Ellis labeled the Lynn Valley washroom idea “goofy” he also noted: “All the buses on the North Shore to my knowledge converge at exchanges where one washroom could serve every bus driver and, inquiring amazingly enough, the public as well.” Ellis’ radical idea of washrooms for all could come as welcome relief for commuters caught short at locations like Phibbs Exchange where, reporter at present, bus drivers have washroom privileges but their employers, the public, do not. It’s a safety issue for the dri- vers. Brian Jossul, bus driver North Vancouver One of the problems with public access is vandalism. If we have to wait in a line-up for the public we can: be lace. Driving a bus without a full bladder takes a high degree of concentration. We've got the health nurse telling us we have to drink eight or nine cups of water a day — they’d better provide us with more washrooms. n ideas to: miller@nsnews.com 1 Man found guilty of assault Robert Gaister News Reporter robert@nsnews.com A North Vancouver City library run in between a 12-year-old girl and a middle-aged man has resulted in the adult receiving an assault conviction. Ronald Marcel Lukinic was initially charged with sexual assault and touching of a minor fora sexual purpose. During a sentencing hear- ing on Wednesday, provincial court fudge Doug, Moss said Lukinic’s first encounter with the girl occurred two months earlier. At that time, Lukinic suggested thar the girl accom- pany him to his house. The girl refused and failed to show up the next day as he had suggested. Upon secing her two months later in the library’s computer section, Lukinic proceeded to chastise her for not keeping their appoint- ment. According to a witness present at the scene, Lukinic wanted to involve the girl in a CD Rom project he was involved in. As the accused was explaining his project to the girl, he kept prompting her to “pay attention.” On several of these occasions, bis prompts were punctuated by slaps on her leg nwo to three inches above the knee. About 15 minutes into the exchange, the girl had earlier testified she started to get scared of the man and moved her chair away from him, but he persisted. At or: point, Lukinic exclaimed: “5"sn nota pervert or anything.” Moss said he was troubled by Lukinic’s choice of words, but added he was not con- vinced a reasonable person observing the events would have come to the conclusion the young lady was being sex- ually violated. Asaresult, Moss found the sexual component of the alle- gations was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt and dismissed it. In spite of his acquittal of the most serious charges, Lukinic loudly complained about his fate to his lawyer outside the courtroom, pro- nouncing his complete inno- cence time and ume again. The lawyer responded by telling Lukinic, he is a “win- ner.” A sentence for Lukinic’s conviction will be handed down next Monday at North Vancouver provincial court. NEW £OCA rian | M.
