home,” says Edith Saatkamp,
who recently introduced an inte-
rior design service with a differ-
ence,

Saatkamp is an interior designer who
has practiced residential and retail design
for 10 years; she teaches interior design
and wnies about it, but her passion is
reserved for creating — bringing an inte-

fior to life and working with the impossi-
bie challenge — be it room or budget.

Now she has hatched an idea that grew
from working with her students in the
classroom. One could describe it as “do it
yourself with a little help from a pro.”

Saatkamp makes house calls to sce
those who have no time to take a course,
and those who wouldn’t dream of hiring
a designer. Her services are personal, and
geared to individual needs. It’s like having
a tutor for the home.

Clients can make their own purchases,
or let her do it for them and enjoy the dis-

counts she gets; they can do their own
renovating, or have it done with her
supervision.

Her visit can last for an hour or as long
as it takes to develop a new color scheme,
draw a functional floor plan, design a wall
unit or plan a home office. She helps with
renovation planning, setting prioriues and
budget, and she can even recommend
reliable trades.

Saatkamp says her ideas are not based
on the latest trends or frills but on func-
