Unfortunately, there are a uum. ber of inaccuracies in the article, which appear to have been related fo the writer by Corporal Pat Dickson of the RCMP. Because Corporal Dickson ‘is clearly in error, } thought 1 should write to clear these matters up. My client is referred to as a “recent parolee. with a long record of violent crimes.” Corporal Dickson is thus of the mistaken view that the incident could have been prevented: “All three suspects should not have been out of jail in early release programs with their violent criminal backgrounds”. For the record, while Mr. Fred does have a criminal record, he has never been convicted of a violent crime, and Corporal Dickson knows this. The article also’ quotes Corporal Dickson as saying, “You can’t keep releasing violent offenders out in the public. Most have a tendency to re-offend.” ; Firstly, this ‘comment obviously does not apply:to my client, who has never been convicted of a vio- lent. offence. Secondly, Corporal Dickson is an employee of the gov- ernment. His job is to enforce the laws, not to criticize them. | Christopher S.
